Detection of Sex of Fetuses
Ùþû¦ÒÍ/Moon, Hyung Ro
Abstract
The over-all accuracy and reliability of prenatal sex determination by sex chromatin analysis in 739 samples of uncultured amniotic fluid cells were 97% (88~100%) and 82% 59~100%), respectively.
The wide ranges in accuracy and reliability were influenced by variations in gestation period at amniocentseis, amount of fluid aspirated, number of cells counted, staining method used, and incidence of sex chromatin positive cells predicting sex of fetus in paticular.
Although the risks of fetal and maternal complications incurred by amniocentesis are minimal, sex chromatin analysis in amniotic fluid cells must not be undertaken unless indications for ante-natal diagnosis are present.
